Welcome to our Website

Welcome to the Trinity Vicariate website.  Our Vicariate is comprised of twelve Catholic parishes in Northwest Detroit, Michigan.  Our parishes are diverse – culturally, racially, and ethnically – yet we share a common bond through faith and the Eucharist.  As individual parishes, and as a Vicariate, we strive to serve all people in our neighborhoods through outreach, support services, and worship.

Through this website, you can find information on each of the parishes in our Vicariate, as well as information on events coordinated at the Vicariate level.  You will also find useful links to news, information, services and programs offered by the Archdiocese of Detroit, the Catholic Church in the United States, and the universal Church.

Thank you for visiting the Trinity Vicariate website.  Be sure to bookmark us so you will always know what's happening in the Church in Detroit!

FR. JOHN PHELPS, C.SS.R. – VICAR OF TRINITY VICARIATE

THE VICAR’S CORNER

THE DISCOVERY – WE ARE RESURRECTED PEOPLE BECAUSE WE'RE CHOSEN TO BE SENT!

June 2nd we celebrate of Jesus’ leaving His Mission to the Eleven with Mary. We are asked to remember Jesus’ Ascending to His Father, our Father. The following Sunday we come together to remember the Descending of the Holy Spirit – Pentecost – Our Birthday – Confirmation.

Church, the Word of Life gives us the way to find God’s will for His people, God’s will that we are called to follow as we lead those chosen to be sent to do what God will give us the grace to do - the first great challenge they faced and the way they found a truth to Unleash the Gospel for the first time!

Circumcision was essential for salvation before Jesus came. Is the law to be kept or changed? The Holy Spirit was given to the uncircumcised. Peter witnessed it. He had a choice to make. Let the Holy Spirit lead. The apostles agreed. Let go of security - the way before. Hold on to the new Way.

The Holy Spirit will teach us the truth that leads to peace. Do we want to listen to the call to change for the sake of the mission or do we want to hold on the ministries we have done? Why change? Because the people to whom we are sent need the message we are meant to bring to them.

We are the messengers. We are chosen to be sent, as God’s sons and daughters, chosen to be the messengers to those not here. This is why we are confirmed. We are “called out of the community” to be Church. The original language is Ecclesia (called out of the community) because of Eucharist.

Do we want the Lamb to be our Lamp? Do we want the Lamb to be our Temple? Do we want to hear that we are chosen to be sent as shepherds to accompany those who are not with us at Eucharist to engage their issues and concerns, hopes and fears and respond with the Joy of the Gospel?

We may have thought we come to Church to go to heaven. Are we willing to listen to the Holy Spirit to know we are chosen to bring heaven to earth? Are we willing to plan the work of letting “walking with the Spirit to create the path” of engaging those not with us in Eucharist?

The message from our world leader, Pope Francis, and from our local leader Archbishop Vigneron, is to open our doors to begin to find the wounded and bring healing. The vision of our vicariate is “Expand our sacred community with an all-encompassing Eucharist lens.”

Expand by getting involved in the human and spiritual hungers and concerns of those to whom we are sent. See with our vision of the Resurrected Body and Blood of Jesus to redeem the fallen and to bring hope out of hopelessness. Let’s live as Confirmed – to renew the face of the earth – one person at a time! May we plan what works for us and then may we work the plan for the sake of others!
